Katie Friel

Managing Editor

Katie was born outside of Washington, DC. After college, she moved to New York where she honed her journalism skills writing for local music publications.

She landed in Austin for graduate school and instantly fell in love with the city and the tacos. After receiving her MA in Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin, Katie began her writing career covering business trends, arts and politics. In 2011, Katie was a Carnegie-Knight Foundation Journalism Fellow.

When she's not editing some of the finest writers in Texas, you can usually find Katie riding her bike, maxing out her credit card at Book People, drinking coffee at Jo's or sitting at Liberty Bar. She has a dog named Huck.
