Although 40 years have passed since its inception, the Austin Area Urban League (AAUL) continues to hold true to its original mission: to assist African Americans and disadvantaged citizens in the achievement of social and economic equality. Through direct delivery service and advocacy, the AAUL provides programs in education, youth development, workforce training career development, and housing and emergency home repair. The mission, encapsulated in the slogan "Building for Equal Opportunity," is symbolized by the equal sign centered within a circle.

The AAUL has many volunteering opportunities. One of its services is to conduct after-school computer and technology classes, and they are currently looking for volunteers to assist the instructor with outreach to community youth, enrollment and attendance record keeping, supervision of youth, field trips, and much more. Assisting with AAUL youth is just one example of the many ways you can become involved — call their office at 512-478-7176 for more information about volunteering.

The annual Equal Opportunity Awards Gala in downtown Austin is an opportunity to break out your fanciest duds for for an evening of recognition and glamour while celebrating some of the city's most empowering organizations dedicated to making a difference.

Becoming an AAUL member means joining in the movement to ensure that all Austin-area African Americans and disadvantaged individuals live their dream of achieving economic empowerment. Membership, which is offered at various levels including corporate memberships, allows you to get involved and stay informed about issues that affect African Americans and gives you access to programs and services and upcoming discounts on products and events.
