Sustainable Food Center's (SFC) mission is to cultivate a healthy community by strengthening the local food system and improving access to nutritious, affordable food. SFC envisions a food-secure community where all children and adults grow, share, and prepare healthy, local food.

From seed to table, SFC creates opportunities for individuals to make healthy food choices and to participate in a vibrant local food system. Through organic food gardening, relationships with area farmers, interactive cooking classes, and nutrition education, children and adults have increased access to locally grown food and are empowered to improve the long-term health of Central Texans and the environment.

Volunteer opportunities with SFC vary. Some of the on-going opportunities include helping with the information booth at SFC Farmers Markets, becoming a garden volunteer, and seed packing for Spread the Harvest.

SFC's annual Farm to Plate fundraising event celebrates the bounty of Central Texas with some of Austin's most acclaimed local restaurants. The sip-and-stroll event features bites from chefs who are dedicated to sourcing local and sustainable food from area farmers. Farm to Plate also features local artisan cocktails, local wine and beer, live music, and a silent auction.

Joining the SFC Sustainer Circle with an annual sustaining gift is the most effective way to ensure the longevity of SFC's work and the momentum they have built in this critical food movement. Benefits vary depending on membership level, but inlcude things like a parking pass for SFC Farmers Market Downtown and advance purchase opportunities for classes and events.
