The Austin Symphony presents The Sounds of Hope, featuring Verdi’s Nabucco. Music from his opera that follows the plight of the Jews as they are assaulted, conquered and subsequently exiled from their homeland by the Babylonian King Nabucco. Franz Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony, will conclude the first half.

The evening concludes with film composer Nigel Westlake, writer of the musical soundtrack to the Golden-Globe Award-winning movie Babe. He crafted a seven-movement song cycle for voice and orchestra, alternating movements from Hebrew and Arabic prayer texts, into a haunting and mesmerizing musical work that brings to the fore themes of compassion. Compassion will receive its U.S. premiere by the Austin Symphony. Israel-born Australian vocalist Lior will be travelling from Australia to perform this wonderfully exciting and timely work.
