Giovan Cuchpin and Mark Pascual’s Be More Pacific brick-and-mortar Filipino spot is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a special anniversary menu, Filipino dancers, and more. Chef Salvador “Buddy” Melgarejo, who grew up in the Philippines and is known for his innovative interpretations of Filipino classics and comfort food, is debuting four new dishes in addition to roasting a suckling pig.

The anniversary celebration begins with a suckling pig starter (while supplies last) and moves on to a mini-kamayan platter curated by Melgarejo that features pork ribs three ways (adobo, asado, and Filipino barbecue); and debuts five new dishes, including binagoongang gulay (squash, long beans, eggplant, and red onion sautéed in shrimp paste); ginataang gulay (pork with squash, long beans, eggplant, and red onion stewed in coconut milk); kilawin (Filipino ceviche made with tuna); pares (Filipino beef stew); and bicol express (pork sautéed in shrimp paste and coconut milk atop green mango). The dessert feature is a Be More Pacific fan favorite, halo-halo, a specialty ice cream made with Amy’s Ice Cream and ube, a sweet purple yam that is used in many traditional Filipino treats.

Filipino dancers from the Filipino Students Association at the University of Texas in Austin will be performing throughout the evening and there will be a raffle, giveaways, and a limited amount of free T-shirts.
