The Takedown is a traveling cook-off pitting home cooks against one another in a showdown of culinary proportions. Founded by Matt Tims, this food competition has been all over the United States with a wide variety of themes (including chili, bacon, salsa and more). In a city such as ours — what with an overwhelming fine dining and celebrity chef scene — now is the time to see what the everyday Austinite can do. Attendees will get to taste the homemade wares as the cooks compete for awesome prices.

And this year's theme? TACOS.

A portion of proceeds will benefit Women's Education Project.
