Sustainable Food Center presents Making Homemade Gelato with Austin Gelato Company

Owner and gelato-maker Alan Gwinner of Austin Gelato Company will share his secrets for making traditional Italian gelato. Using fresh, local dairy from Richardson Farms and local flavor ingredients from SFC Famers’ Market vendors, Gwinner will explain the science of making gelato and ice cream; give tips for sourcing flavor ingredients like vanillas from Mexico and Madagascar; and discuss the effects of both higher demand and climate change on sustainable production of natural ingredients. Then you’ll get to make and eat your own gelato or non-dairy fruit sorbetto, and you won’t even need an ice cream maker.
