Fine — yet accessible — dining near the UT campus

Born near Dallas to an English mother, Chef Mark Schmidt has a decidedly Anglo-inspiration to his cuisine. Expect dishes like fried smelts with matchstick potatoes and malt vinegar aioli, a dish from his nationally acclaimed former restaurant, Cafe 909. The curried prawn kedgeree with quail eggs now on the menu at Blackbird & Henry is Schmidt's take on the classic Anglo-English dish of curried rice, smoked haddock, and hard boiled eggs. Schmidt's wife, Shelly, curates the impressive wine list.

Though the restaurant has fine dining elements (such as an oyster bar) there is a decidedly laid back feel.
