The same year the Driskill Hotel was rescued from demolition in 1969, a cafe was opened at the base of the hotel as a meeting place for sophisticated Austinites. With a focus on Texas-honed comfort foods and contemporary fare, the cafe eventually became the eatery it is today, known as the 1886 Cafe and Bakery. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the famous hotel offers a complete menu of upscale entrees for refined palates.

The bakery's pastry team is known for specialty cakes for weddings and other special occasions.
