If you're looking for fresh, easy Italian in a casual central meeting spot, there's no better option than Vespaio. Situated on the perfect central corner of South Congress next to the SoCo artisans and across from the food trailer park, everyone knows exactly where to go. Sitting inside is like sitting in an Italian wine cellar, and the kitchen is open so you can see them preparing the fresh pasta and desserts. The outdoor patio is a bit noisy, but wonderful people-watching on a busy night or weekend. The wood-fired pizzas are worth the wait and make a great sharing appetizer. If you're not opposed to it, the veal dishes are heavenly, and the seafood is handled lightly, never too heavy in sauce or cream. Allow the knowledgeable servers to recommend which wine will compliment your meal perfectly. And don't forget to save room for their decadent desserts, like the homemade tiramisu or chocolate torta.
Vespaio can make almost all of their dishes with gluten-free pasta, an enormous win for Austin's GF community.
