They shroud their bar in velvet, tattoos and mystery, but what The Jackalope is hiding is an amazing menu with some of the best burgers in town. These giant meat-eatings are topped with gourmet ingredients like brie, honey-smoked bacon and fiery wing sauce that will make your taste buds sing louder than the heavy metal blasting overhead. Happy hour also starts at 11:30am, soooooooooo... lunch, anyone?
It's called the Big-Ass Burger for a reason. This beautiful beast -- served at both of the Roaring Fork locations in Austin -- has to be held together with a skewer because it is literally spilling over with flavors. Poblano peppers, smoked pepper bacon and longhorn cheddar contribute to the perfectly prepared burger that has been a mainstay on Texas Monthly's "Best Burgers in Texas" list.
This adorable expanded mom and pop hamburger stand has been going strong in downtown Austin for decades. In that time, they've stayed true to their promises of consistency and honest, local flavors. All of their burger creations are available with locally-raised buffalo, beef or veggie patty options, and you get the choice of their notable onion rings, French fries or a combo of both.
Don't mind the name, just mind the burgers. At Dirty Martin's Kum-Bak Place, you'll find incredible, old-timey burgers wrapped in paper like delicious meaty presents you can get every day. Fresh, never frozen meat patties are prepared in front of you and topped with your favorite ingredients. Pair it with some freshly fried tater tots and a milkshake, and you're in for authentic great taste.
Casino El Camino is a friendly neighborhood bar that happens to be on Sixth Street and full of tattooed bad-asses. The back patio is the perfect place to enjoy the award-winning burgers that have been lauded on The Food Network's "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives." The 3/4-lb. local beef burgers are topped with bold, fresh veggies and sauces that explode with flavor with every bite. You'll feel like a bad-ass too when you polish off one of these gargantuan burgers.
Whaaaaaat? Why is a vegetarian restaurant on the best burgers list?! Well, it's because Mother's Garden Cafe has hands down the best veggie burger in town, and that earns it a spot on our list. The Bueno Burger is a recipe of seeds, grains and fresh veggies that is topped with giant-sliced pickles, tomatoes and lettuce. But the kickers are Mother's handmade guacamole and their spicy brown mustard. One bite of this flavor combination, and you won't miss the meat. Well, not for now at least...
Sure, Counter Cafe may be known for their breakfast, but that all changed in 2009 when their Counter Burger came in 2nd on Texas Monthly’s “Fifty Best Burgers in Texas” list and thus the best burger in Austin according to them. It makes sense though, because Counter Cafe’s rendition of the traditional, classic burger is top notch. All the ingredients ar efresh, the patty is as juicy as can be and it’s topped off with grated cheese and a sweet bun. Add an order of sweet potato fries and your burger eating experience will be complete.
Phil's Ice House has plenty of different burgers to choose from but the Mini Burger Sampler Basket (pictured) is the best way to get a good sampling of what Phil's Ice House has to offer. The Mini Crestview Burger is a tasty chili cheeseburger topped with bleu cheese on a jalapeno bun. The Mini Rosdale Burger is a juicy cheddar mesquite burger smothered in Mesquite BBQ sauce on a sourdough bun. Finally, the Mini Violet Crown Burger is a sublime bleu cheeseburger with grilled onions on a jalapeno cheese bun. Phil's Ice House is a joint venture from the woman behind Amy's Ice Cream, so you'll be sure to find some tasty desserts here too.
