Cheer Up Charlie's
|
Dubbed as Austin's best new alternative LGBTQ and friends hangout space, Cheer Up Charlie's is a no frills kind of place where all walks of life are welcome. Despite its minimalism, Cheer Up Charlie's offers vegan and organic options--like Kombucha on tap--that you'd never expect to see sitting next to well-vodka and PBR in a dive bar, but this is Austin and Austin capitalizes on the atypical. The bar is a tiny, free standing rectangular building nicely positioned next to Me So Hungry and a sprinkling of popular vegan food trailers. The front yard and back porch are expansive and easily accommodate the ebb and flow of a large crowd of people outside. Expect to sit outside, underneath the charmingly yet haphazardly strung Christmas lights as the interior space is so minimal.
You may not notice right off the bat, but you can order handmade vegan chocolates at the bar that earn high praise. DJs often play vinyl on Saturday nights and, during festival season, Cheer Up Charlie's is a hotbed for unofficial shows.
