El Sol y La Luna
ElSolyLaLuna
It's all about location for the downtown Mexican arts and dining experience of El Sol y La Luna, an Austin original. In the heart of downtown, the restaurant serves as an art gallery, a community meeting spot and even a makeshift dance hall for Salsa lessons. Always a popular spot for dinner, the expansive restaurant serves up affordable interior Mexican dishes using fresh, local ingredients that benefit the farmers in the local community. Both Mexican and American breakfast items are served every day, and that level of variety extends to the exapansive, no-nonsense lunch and dinner menu as well. Vegetarians, kids and seafood lovers will all find flavorful dishes that will be sure to please. During the daytime, the corner of 6th Street and Guadalupe is empty and the restaurant is easily accessible to everyone. At nighttime, when the majority of the cultural events take place, however, the street gets progressively rowdier and parking gets tricky.
Happy hour runs Tue - Fri: 4 - 7pm. Cocktails are $2-5 and appetizers are all $5. On Wednesdays, all bottles of wine are half off after 4pm. Mariachi band Tamazula plays every Friday evening.
