The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center
|
The Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center was constructed in 2007 to celebrate and preserve Mexican-American heritage in the city of Austin. The Center holds classes for nearly all arts, including theatre, visual, music, dance, and even culinary traditions. In doing so, the Center fosters the city's creativity by keeping the past alive through education. The idea to build the Barrientos Center came to fruition in the early 70's, but it took over 30 years of budgeting, planning, and building to bring a bit of Austin's Hispanic history back to live. The Center is free and open to the public.
