With dim lighting and loud music, Imperia may feel more like a dance club than a sushi restaurant to the average Austin restaurant-goer. Geared more toward downtown's club-going clientele, the emphasis is heavy on the offerings at the sprawling bar and lounge area at the front of the restaurant. For most happy hour patrons, the speciality cocktails and sake varieties overshadow the wine selection for the bold flavors and general experience. The wait times can be long, so the dim sum and other small plates at the bar are often the way to go. If you do stick around for the sushi and sashimi, you'll be impressed by the selection and execution of the rolls and rice dishes. But watch out, the bill adds up quickly.
