Poodle Dog Lounge

A longtime member of the Sunday night country music circuit (along with Ginny's Little Longhorn and The Continental Club), Poodle Dog Lounge's live music offerings have been scaled back, but its entertainment value has not. Open the front door, marked by the cartoon of a cheerleading poodle, and enter a dark dive of canned beer and snapshots of Marilyn Monroe. A central bar, shuffle board table and jukebox fill the main room, with a side room dedicated to pool tables. Even with its new electronic jukebox, it's safe to bet that Merle Haggard and David Alan Coe are in queue to be played. Poodle Dog company is down-to-earth: friendly bartenders and regulars who will join you in a beer and likely offer an opinion on the jukebox's next song.
Bring cash. The nearest ATM is at the 7-11 on Burnet at Koenig. No liquor here, but you can buy set-ups.
