South Congress Avenue
|
It's hard to believe that just a few decades ago South Congress Avenue was a run down, crime-riddled part of town. Today there's no evidence of it's troubled past, unique stores line the streets with venues, restaurants, and coffee shops dispersed throughout, welcoming you to this hip side of Austin. There are plenty of must see spots on South Congress, Lucy in Disguise sells and rents costumes and vintage clothing. Uncommon Objects will have what you're looking for, and what you didn't even know you were looking for, the rows and rows of vintage and antique booths will leave you inspired. The granddaddy of music venues, The Continental Club has been rocking SoCo since the 1950's. If you're looking for new boots or just want to browse Allen Boot's has one of the very best boot and western wear collection in Austin. On the weekends South Congress holds a little market with vendors selling jewelry, art, clothing and handmade goods in a few locations along the street. First Thursdays of the month South Congress stays up late, with vendors, live music and the stores staying open later.
