TC's Lounge (CLOSED)
|
TC's Lounge isn't trying to be anything other than what it is. And what that is is a down-home, soul-soothing, body-moving, music-exalting good time. Owned by T.C. Perkins since 1979, the lounge is nestled deep in East Austin within a barn-like house that shows its decades-old age. Inside lies the most authentic blues experience Austin has to offer. Catching a show here is something of a religious experience to fans of authentic rhythm and soul; if you know nothing of the genre, Monday and Wednesday nights offer shows by more well-known blues groups (like the Little Elmore Reed Blues Band) that will undoubtedly get you out of your comfort zone and onto to the sweaty dance floor. Speaking of appetite, once you pay the cover at the door, an array of crock-pots await you, filled with free, homemade food for the taking. To wash it down, bring your own liquor and wine, or purchase a beer at the bar.
While Mondays are frenzied and popular, don't limit time spent here to one well-known night. Authenticity runs deep seven days a week.
