Gregory Fenves named finalist for University of Texas at Austin president
KVUE — The University of Texas System Board of Regents has named Gregory Fenves as the sole finalist to serve as UT Austin's new president. Fenves, 58, has served as UT Austin's provost and vice president since 2013. He previously served as dean of UT's Cockrell School of Engineering for five years.
Fenves expressed his gratitude to the regents in a statement on Friday. "UT Austin is unmatched in its potential to educate and inspire leaders," Fenves said. "I would be honored to lead this university and work with the Chancellor, Board of Regents and all Longhorns and partners across Texas and the nation."
Under state law, the board must name presidential finalists at least 21 days before formally making an appointment. Over the next three weeks, UT System leaders will be coordinating meetings so that stakeholders can meet with Fenves.
