Going Solar
Affordable new option for solar power launches across Austin
There's a new alternative for Austinites interested in lowering their electric bills — and saving the planet.
SolarCity, the largest provider of renewable solar energy in the nation, has announced its Austin launch. The company promises to make it easy and affordable for local homeowners and businesses to harness solar energy, working with local outlets Austin Energy and MP2.
To help balance the cost of solar panels, SolarCity offers free installation and several financing options: pay-as-you-go and leasing plans (in which SolarCity owns the panels) and loans (in which the homeowner owns the panels). With payment plans ranging from 10-20 years, bills can be as low as $50 per month. Additionally, Texas and Austin offer multiple rebates and tax cuts for using renewable energy.
SolarCity is available in 17 states and Washington, D.C.; Austin marks the fifth city in Texas. Operation centers are already up-and-running Houston, Dallas-Forth Worth, and El Paso, and the company is looking to open an Austin location soon.
