Have you heard? Austin’s most trusted on-air source for music has made some big changes to start the new year.
On January 2, KUT, public radio broadcasting from the heart of UT, added a new frequency, giving its news and music departments distinct spaces on your radio dial.
KUTX 98.9 FM, coined “The Austin Music Experience,” is all music all the time, providing a mix of signature KUT music programming with enhanced offerings.
KUT 90.5 FM remains in tact, now as a 24-hour news station providing Austinites with a mix of local original programming and the national NPR programs you’ve grown to love. And the music? It's moved further down the dial to 98.9 FM.
KUTX 98.9 FM, coined “The Austin Music Experience,” is all music all the time, providing a mix of signature KUT music programming with enhanced offerings. You’ll still hear the same familiar voices and programs you’ve come expect in the same time slots, just at a different frequency.
Eklektikos with John Aielli is live Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Texas Music Matters airs each Friday at 12 p.m.; Matt Reilly holds down afternoon drive time weekday afternoons and Laurie Gallardo hosts The Laurie Show Monday through Thursday at 8 p.m.
“The KUTX music team has been working hard to launch KUTX 98.9 with some of the most inspiring, accessible — and uniquely Austin — music programming around,” Matt Reilly said of the launch. “Listeners will be able to turn to KUTX 98.9 to hear emerging talent, experience live music and engage with the community.”
KUTX gives the revered music team a chance to expand on specialty programming. New music programs include: Jazz with Jay Trachtenberg, What’s Next with Jeff McCord and a three-hour Sunday morning program hosted by Jody Denberg highlighting music off the beaten path. Each weekday during morning and afternoon drive times and at the noon hour, you'll also catch three-minute NPR news breaks.
