Are you a filmmaker who relishes the stress of an overbearing deadline? How about one that’s for a good cause? Then you better clear your schedule for the weekend of January 13-15 and stock up on some coffee for the Reel Change Film Frenzy.
The Alamo Drafthouse and Lights. Camera. Help. are joining forces to help highlight and promote ten of the best nonprofits that Austin has to offer. These ten nonprofits, ranging from CASA of Travis County to Whole Planet Foundation, will each join forces with their own teams of five filmmakers to produce a film highlighting the work of the respective nonprofit along with the talent of the filmmakers themselves.
The teams of the filmmakers and the nonprofits will first get paired up at a meet-and-greet and happy hour at The Highball on January 5. The race to plan, produce and edit the films will begin in front of the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar on Friday, January 13 at noon after final instructions.
Finished productions will be due at high noon on the Sunday of that weekend, and you better make sure they’re ready, because that same night the ten films will be screened in front of a live audience and a panel of judges at the Alamo Drafthouse. An audience award of Alamo Drafthouse tickets and gift certificates will be gifted to the crowd favorite, while a jury award of $250 to the nonprofit and $250 to the filmmakers will be bestowed upon the winning film.
At the 2012 Lights. Camera. Help. Nonprofit Film Festival next September, the winning film will also get the honor of screening alongside many other works promoting other great nonprofits. If you think you have the artistic and technical skill to pull off this marathon production, gather your team and register here.
