We chatted with Doyle and Sexton to find out more about their work and what drives them.
CultureMap: What inspires you to do what you do?
Lisa Sexton: My family. My husband is in construction, my father was in the construction industry, and so was his father. I love watching the entire homebuilding process — I find it fascinating. I also grew up going to open houses on weekends; my parents loved looking at homes, and they still do.
Susan Doyle: I love what I do — it’s a family tradition. I have a long history of real estate in my family. My grandfather graduated from Palm School here in Austin and began his career after World War II in real estate, developing subdivisions in Austin. My parents continued in the business, along with my brothers. It’s my passion. I love real estate and I enjoy helping people!
CM: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to people looking for their dream home?
LS: Be flexible and open to new ideas. You may not get everything on your wish list, but there also may be things on your wish list that you didn't even know you wanted!
SD: Create a wish list and really think about how you want to live in your home. This will really help you and your Realtor in the search process.
CM: And advice to those who are selling?
LS: Remember your audience: Who are you selling to? If you are selling a $200,000 home you will have a larger audience (and more showings) than if you are selling a $5,000,000 home.
SD: Become educated about the current market in your neighborhood and do not overprice your home. Overpricing can come back to bite you later and could potentially bring you less money in the end.
CM: Sum up Austin in three words.
LS: Friendly, young and vibrant.
SD: Happy, energetic, growing.
CM: What's one thing people might not know about you?
LS: I have lots of kids! But I am lucky in the fact that my mother-in-law lives with us and helps out with the kids, and my parents also live nearby for backup.
SD: I am a fourth-generation Austinite.
