The lowdown: Just 30 minutes outside of Austin sits a legend of a home: the former residence of Dollie Ann Cole, widow of the late president of General Motors. This spectacular ranch has been the site of dozens of glamorous and colorful parties featuring titans of Hollywood and the sporting world, and it's no stretch to imagine the lavishness that occurred when you see the home's inside. Much of the antique wood is from the Lockhart Cotton Compress, circa 1860. Many of the 25-plus doors are more than 9 feet tall and were carved freehand by craftsmen from Mexico. Antique tiles were gathered from salvaged old structures in Mexico, and the kitchen staircase was rescued from a merchant store being torn down in Cuero, Texas.
