Where is it great to be a first-time homebuyer? All over Texas
As anyone looking for a house right now can tell you, the real estate market in Texas is red hot. And according to a new study by WalletHub, a host of Texas cities are some of the best places in the country for first-time buyers.
In fact, Texas nabbed 12 of the top 25 slots: Allen ranks No. 2, followed by Frisco (5), Plano (6), Carrollton (7), McKinney (8), Grand Prairie (11), Richardson (12), Garland (17), Arlington (20), Austin (22), Denton (23) and Irving (24).
The No. 1 city for first-time homebuyers is Overland Park, Kansas.
The WalletHub study looked at 300 American cities and determined the rankings using three general categories: housing affordability, real estate market and living environment. Austin ranked No. 2 for real estate market and No. 37 for living environment. An abysmal ranking of 142 in housing affordability sent the city plummeting.
However, Austin ranks No. 3 on the list of best large cities for first-time buyers.
