A high-profile retired banker is banking on his three-acre West Austin estate near Lake Austin fetching the list price of $12.9 million.

Mark Sutton, who retired in 2006 as a high-level executive at Swiss banking giant UBS, and his wife, Dayna, recently put up the for-sale sign at their 20,708-square-foot mansion — easily one of the largest homes in Austin. (By comparison, a typical TJ Maxx store measures 21,600 square feet.) Alaina Martin and Laura Gottesman of Austin’s Gottesman Residential Real Estate have the listing.

The mansion, at 4433 River Garden Trl. in The Summit in Westlake subdivision, features seven bathrooms, eight full bathrooms, and five half-bathrooms. Highlights include:

  • Media room
  • Golf simulator and putting green
  • Wine cellar and wine-tasting room
  • Fitness room
  • Sprawling patios
  • Outdoor negative-edge swimming pool
  • Custom-made mahogany exterior doors
  • Sound deadening between floors
  • Handmade wrought-iron fencing and railing
  • Irrigation well
  • Hand-carved stone mantles and fountains
  • Structural steel frame anchored to commercial-grade foundation

The French Provençal estate “is situated at the top of Mount Larson ... and has spectacular panoramic views of Lake Austin and downtown,” Martin says. The mansion was completed in 2006 by Austin homebuilder Tim Hill; John Fitzpatrick of Austin was the architect.

Mark Sutton, a Houston native, stepped down 13 years ago as chairman and CEO of the Americas division of UBS. He spent 26 years working at UBS and its predecessors.

“For the last 10 years, I commuted back and forth every weekend from Austin, Texas, to New York and that’s long enough,” Sutton told the Reuters news service in 2006.

The Suttons are selling the estate because their children are grown, Martin says, “and the home offers more space than is needed for the two of them.”
