A fourth-generation Texan, Patty Johns is also a native Austinite who loves that she can still find that "hometown feel" in what is now considered a rapidly growing big city. Following a degree in business administration from St. Edwards University, Johns has devoted 23 years to the real estate industry, starting out in the title business and ascending to a top producer for Kuper Sotheby's International Realty.
The avid cyclist and supporter of the arts revels in helping people reach their ultimate goal, whether that means finding the perfect home or selling at the right time for the right price. Not only does Johns work with buyers to find new or resale homes, but she also works with custom homebuilders, investors, and acreage sales. For sellers, she employs a step-by-step marketing plan that puts special emphasis on getting the home ready to show.
A savvy negotiator, Johns has a knack for maintaining diplomacy while paying attention to every detail. Her satisfied clients aren't shy about telling their friends about the wonderful experience of working with Johns, while the results of her transactions often speak for themselves.
We chatted with Johns to find out more about her work and what drives her.
CultureMap: What inspires you to do what you do?
Patty Johns: Showing off the city where I was born and raised, while finding a place for my clients that can truly be home: a place to belong and give expression to who they are and what they value.
CM: What’s one piece of advice you'd give to people looking for their dream home?
PJ: Know what you want and be specific on features that matter, whether it's a pot filler above a six-burner range, a large yard to play in, or a four-car garage. You will know you have found it when you walk in and have that "aha" moment.
CM: And advice to those who are selling?
PJ: Be realistic in your expectations and willing to do what is needed to get your house in comparable condition to those that have sold recently in the area.
CM: Sum up Austin in three words.
PJ: Energetic. Inspiring. Unique.
CM: What's one thing people might not know about you?
PJ: In the late eighties, I was trained and worked for a large investment firm as a Series 7 stockbroker. I feel the experience and education from this previous career has given me a vast insight to helping both buyers and sellers understand and realize their own return on investment in real estate.
