From the folks behind Numero 28 Pizzeria & Vineria comes Alimentari 28, a spin-off concept opening in the 2nd Street District this spring.

The 2-year-old Numero 28 has thrived thanks to the direction of restaurateur Bernardo Nolfo, who added his own flair to the downtown Austin outpost of the New York City-based chain. Alimentari 28 — located next door — will build upon his mission to create a warm, traditional Italian experience with even more dining options.

In contrast to its sister restaurant, which is popular with the dinner crowd, Alimentari 28 will serve breakfast, brunch, lunch, and happy hour. The 2,100-square-foot space features a bar; wraparound patio for dining and live music; and bakery serving pastries, coffees, and gelato. From the spirits to the sweets, there will be an emphasis on Italian creations.

"We saw the opportunity to expand and serve a need for the neighborhood by creating a bakery space that would offer small pastries, great cappuccino, and coffee and fresh press juices. That'll be available for breakfast and eventually brunch," Nolfo says.

"We've also created a great mixology bar in the back, and we hope [we] will become a regular destination for locals to enjoy happy hour after work."

Look for Alimentari 28 at 454 W. Second Street.
