Chances are, you never even noticed it along the Sixth Street skyline, but it's been there in plain view the whole time: Midnight Cowboy Oriental Modeling.

What? Gross! Really??

Yes, really. If you type "Midnight Cowboy Oriental Modeling Austin" into Google, the top listing you get is from www.worldsexguide.org/austin, so you know it was the real deal. Set up as an "oriental modeling and massage" business, the second-story establishment has lived between Trinity and San Jacinto, across the street from the downtown Alamo Drafthouse.

There's now a new luxury cocktail lounge on Sixth Street with a serious history of whatWHAT where you can catch your drinks before or after your Drafthouse movie.

Well, lucky for Tim League and his busy new Beverage Director, Bill Norris, the Midnight Cowboy went the way of... well, most all other brothels. And the once seedy sex den has been bought up and reappropriated by the business-savvy Alamo. (You can't blame them with that movie title name.)

And voila! There's now a new luxury cocktail lounge on Sixth Street with a serious history of whatWHAT where you can catch your drinks before or after your Drafthouse movie. The entrance to the luxury lounge will still be through the same unmarked door in the alley off Sixth that was only ever used by those brave enough (and nasty enough) to enter. That's awesome.

According to a Wednesday press release, the new Midnight Cowboy Cocktail Lounge will open Friday, March 9, just in time for SXSW. The significantly improved and updated luxury lounge has been designed by Joel Mozersky and will feature exclusive tableside menu drinks by Norris. Brian Dressel (formerly of FINO, East Side Showroom and Bar Congress) will be the new destination bar's manager.

The former "massage" rooms will be available for reservation for parties of six to eight, while the booths in the front room will accommodate smaller parties. According to the new Midnight Cowboy House Rules, under no circumstances will the parties turn into the kind of sessions observed by the previous establishment.

So...that's good. We think? Yowza.

Midnight Cowboy will begin accepting reservations beginning March 6 at 12 p.m. Details on finding the entrance will be provided at that time.
