Snap Kitchen sets its sights on Dallas for healthy expansion
Austin-based Snap Kitchen, another player in the My Fit Foods realm that sells pre-packaged, healthy to-go meals packaged in disposable plastic containers, is eyeing Dallas for expansion. Snap plans to open five locations in Dallas by early 2014.
The company hasn't signed leases but is shopping for space in Uptown, Park Cities, Greenville Avenue and Preston Hollow. The rollout will encompass a flagship site with commissary kitchen, plus four smaller satellite units.
Snap Kitchen CEO Martin Berson says that Dallas is a no-brainer for Snap. "We have numerous ties to the community through friends, family and co-workers and feel that the climate for adopting Austin-based brands is strong," he says.
Berson, a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, founded Snap Kitchen in 2010. In addition to the six Austin locations, there are also three Snaps in Houston.
The menu includes vegan, gluten-free, paleo, vegetarian and sugar-free options such as peanut butter pancakes, meatballs and peppers, Mediterranean spaghetti squash, quinoa "mac and cheese," jalapeño hummus, and raw coconut macaroons.
There are also juices, elixirs, snacks and salads. Executive chef is Matthew Reinhart.
In charge of design is architect Michael Hsu, the respected designer of Uchi and Uchiko, among many other Austin establishments. He will also design Uchi opening on Maple Avenue in Dallas.
