The 19th annual Cattle Baron’s Ball creates a Texas-sized affair at Star Hill Ranch

The 19th Cattle Baron’s Ball, benefiting the American Cancer Society, chose the Hill Country for its venue at the beautiful Star Hill Ranch.

Guests arrived at the ranch on Hamilton Pool Road just as the sun began to set. Gala Chairs Pam and Todd Gilmour coordinated an extensive committee to create an evening with endless opportunities for fun in supporting the work of the Cancer Society.

A first stop for many folks was the Bambi Booth, a 1962 Airstream photo booth. Then it was on to a VIP cocktail reception and the music of Macy Maloy. A bit of a chill arrived with the moonlight, so it wasn’t difficult for folks to head toward the tented “ballroom.”

Along the way, guests had a chance for a Baron Boot Shine, Cowgirl Coiffures by the Evelyn Jackson Salon, a Vodka Toss to win a bottle of Deep Eddy Vodka, a sip of Garrison Brothers Bourbon and, last but certainly not least, a drawing to win the chance to shoot Smokey the Cannon. The cannon fire on the hour made certain no one dozed off during the evening.

Sterling Affairs created an extensive menu based on regions of Texas. Temptation was abundant with such offerings as Firecracker Red Snapper from the Gulf Coast/Central Texas region, Kobe Beef Sliders from West Texas, Green Chile Braised Duck from South Texas, and desserts from around the world.

Any torpor from over-eating was shaken loose during the live auction which featured such items as a ski vacation, exotic car driving tour, Sante Fe vacation, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw autographed guitar, a poker table and more.

The evening ended on a very high note with the music of Bob Schneider and The Texas Bluegrass Massacre. A final tip of the hat to lead sponsors St. David’s Healthcare, Texas Monthly, Stacie and David Keliehor and Covert Cadillac who were joined by many other financial and in-kind sponsors.
