The sidewalks along MLK, Chicon and Rosewood Avenues were lined with hundreds of excited children and families eager to take part in Austin's Juneteenth Parade, celebrating the day the Emancipation Proclamation came to be enforced in Texas.
Floats, classic cars, bands, and local business threw out candy, toys and beads to the crowd during the Historical Parade.
This year the parade boasted a number of community outreach organizations, with groups helping to feed the homeless, offering free HIV testing and helping to raise the number of registered voters.
There was a strong sense community as Austin came together to the celebrate this important day of Texas history.
The celebration continues at historical Rosewood Park from noon until 9 p.m.
