Barbara Bush celebrates 90th birthday with family photo, big party and $17 million gift
You just couldn't round up a more powerful family group than the gang that got together in Kennebunkport, Maine, for a photo opp celebrating Barbara Bush's 90th birthday. Former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, along with presidential hopeful Jeb Bush were among the two dozen family members that gathered for the official birthday portrait.
The former first lady celebrates her 90th Monday with her birthday wish to raise funds for literacy programs. To date, $17.3 million has been raised for the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation in honor of the milestone. (That includes the $7 million XPRIZE from Dollar General.)
"I've been the luckiest woman in the world, truthfully. And I know it."
According to the Associated Press, a gala is planned in her honor Monday evening in a party tent at St. Ann's Church in Kennebunkport where the Bush family has a summer home. Amy Grant, Reba McIntire and Michael W. Smith are among the special guests expected.
In an interview on the Today show Monday morning, she told her granddaughter Jenna Bush Hager, "I've been the luckiest woman in the world, truthfully. And I know it."
As for presidential politics Barbara Bush vowed to stay out of the conversation, except to say that she considers her son, Jeb, "brilliant."
