Take a stroll along 2nd Street and you'll find yourself in another world — a world where Little Red Riding Hood, Repunzel, and the Little Mermaid exist.
The Downtown Austin Alliance, 2nd Street District, and Silicon Labs can be thanked for this temporary fairytale adventure. They summoned students from The University of Texas at Austin, Texas State University, and St. Edward's University to submit elaborate holiday window designs in order to compete for $8,000 in scholarship money.
The displays, inspired by scenes from classic children's books and fairytales like Pinnochio, Jumanji and Peter Pan, will be on display through January 2, 2013.
The winners were picked through an online voting system.
The first place winners were Devon Brownlow and Skyler McIntosh for the Little Red Riding Hood display. The Invocation of Spring by Lori Navarrette came in second.
