KVUE — In the next 20 years, the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is expected to look a lot different with double the amount of parking spaces, additional gates, and another baggage claim.
On November 1, city council approved the plan that will decide the future of the Austin airport. The airport is planning for massive growth in the next few years.
This is a new look at phase one of its 20-year master plan. The new processing center will include additional baggage screening, ticketing, and security areas, along with 20 new gates.
The airport first revealed its proposed master plan for the next 20 years at a public workshop in September.
A spokesperson for the airport said phase one is expected to cost about $4 billion, but travelers said they're looking forward to the changes.
"That looks pretty massive but it will probably meet the needs of the airport and the people that come through here," said traveler Jackson McQuown.
