What is your favorite Austin holiday activity?
Austin has a lot to offer during the holiday season. Whether you prefer indoor activities or embracing the chilly weather, holiday music or stunning lights, there's something for everyone. Vote for your favorite Austin holiday activity once a day, every day, until December 16.
Once you cast your vote, sign up for the chance to win one of several great holiday prizes including a pair of tickets to the Whole Foods Ice Skating Rink and $20 gift card, a pair of tickets to a performance of The Nutcracker, a pair of tickets to the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, and a $500 gift card to Diamond's Direct.
What Austin lacks in winter weather, it certainly makes up for with holiday lights. The most stunning of light displays in Austin has to be the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park, returning this December 16 - 23, complete with a 5K and a Kid's run.
Everybody loves a bit of mystery, and the trees that Gregory Cratch has been selling along Loop 360 in Northwest Austin for 18 years certainly provide just that. How they end up lavishly decorated in the night every holiday season, no one knows, but maybe we all would prefer that it stay that way.
We don't see much ice in Texas, so the Whole Foods ice rink is a welcome winter treat. Whether it's unseasonably hot or appropriately cool outside, the Whole Foods ice rink will go on!
The Nutcracker is a timeless holiday classic that embodies all that makes the season magical, and we're lucky to have the wonderful Ballet Austin perform it. Not only is the performance phenomenal, but it gives our casual city the chance to class it up for the night.
Holiday sing-alongs are a great way to kick off the season, and it can't get any better than when paired with a tree lighting in front of the beautiful Texas Capitol building. John Aielli of KUT leads the sing-along as the tree is being lit before the group strolls along Congress avenue sipping hot cocoa and enjoying good company.
The Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is a great way to have a stress-free holiday shopping experience completely unique to Austin. Not only can you find one-of-a-kind gifts to check off your Christmas list, but you can support local artists (and listen to live local music) in the process.
