Comedy legends overtake Austin during the funniest weekend of the year
Moontower Comedy & Oddity Fest once again outdid itself with a weekend of hilarious good times. From April 20 to 23, legendary comedians took over Austin for four days of stand-up, sketch, improv, and musical comedy.
The most timely, yet bittersweet, performance came courtesy of Princess, a Prince cover band featuring Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph and singer-songwriter Gretchen Lieberum. Just two days after Prince's tragic death, Austinites packed Paramount Theatre for an epic tribute to the icon.
Another stand-out set was David Cross'politically-charged special "Making America Great Again!," which filmed in Austin during the fest. The current political atmosphere also was nailed by Anthony Atamanuik's satirical portrayal of Donald Trump.
Comedy legend Martin Short returned to the stage with a nostalgic performance, complete with a sombrero-filled salute to ¡Three Amigos!Other big names that rocked the festival included Maria Bamford, Kevin Smith, Anjelah Johnson, Mike MacRae, Jessica Williams, Piff the Magic Dragon, Jimmy Carr, and Janeane Garofalo.
