Johnny's Gold Brick, located in the old Boom Boom Room, is a low-key affair with green walls, low light and wood accents giving the space a serene feeling. The spot is geared towards drinkers who are looking for delicious yet unsophisticated cocktails, which are painted on the wall and priced at a very economical $8.
The frozen margarita at Johnny's blends both Persian and key limes to get the right balance of tart and sweet. Order it "El Diablo" style for an added shot of creme de mure (a blackberry liqueur). The El Machete version references the bar's original name and the variation adds Big Red soda for a so-wrong-it's-right vanilla, strawberry and lime combination.
