Since 1938, Avalon Diner has dished up near-addictive comfort food in the heart of River Oaks. Whether it’s for one of the diner’s old-fashioned hamburgers with a soda fountain beverage (like an ice cream float or sweet milkshake) or a hearty breakfast of fresh country eggs, soft biscuits, savory ham and spunky hash browns laced with onion, bell pepper, paprika and a shot of Tabasco, River Oaks residents have been making regular pilgrimages here for decades to get their fix of a Mayberry atmosphere and down-home cooking.
The milkshakes are made with Blue Bell ice cream, and the cool, tangy lemonade and limeade is fresh squeezed.
