New York (and Carrie Bradshaw) will always have Magnolia Bakery, but Los Angeles-based Sprinkles has bragging rights as the first cupcake-only bakery in the country. They are hardly the only cupcakes in town, but on busy days at the Highland Park shop, the line can extends way out the door. Known for their red velvet flavor, we favor more unique offerings that rotate in and out throughout the week, like chai latte, lemon coconut and peanut butter chip. Those with dietary restrictions will appreciate the vegan and gluten-free red velvet cupcakes served every day. But don't forget to check for a charitable cupcake (Sprinkles often offers them in conjunction with a local or national cause).
Follow Sprinkes on Twitter or Facebook — they'll tweet a secret word to whisper for a free cupcake at different locations around the country.
