Slackerville

When artist Mike Poulson put his "motorcycle cop" sculpture -- a work featuring an authentic, repurposed bike topped by a helmet-wearing figure -- up in the empty lot he owns on South 1st Street, he knew he was creating a made-you-look moment. He couldn't predict that the piece would attract a handful of local merchants to the space, forming an indie business anti-strip mall known as Slackerville. Poulson himself runs a studio in the space, and other Slackerville citizens include End of an Ear Records, Bottle House Gallery and New Brohemia.
