Austin Loves America
Austin loves America: City ranks among most patriotic in the U.S.
Nearly every city in America will roll out the red-white-and-blue carpet this weekend, but a recent survey reveals Texas towns are patriotic year-round. According to Mylife.com, Texas is home to five of the 10 most patriotic cities in the country.
To determine the rankings, researchers analyzed how the 100 most populous cities fared in four categories: percentage of population in the armed forces, total veteran spending, fireworks popularity in July, and percentage of community and social service workers.
San Antonio earned the highest ranking in the Lone Star State at No. 2. Austin was No. 3, followed by Fort Worth (No. 4), El Paso (No. 8) and Houston (No. 10). California was the only other state to have more than one city in the top 10. San Diego took home first place; Long Beach grabbed the No. 7 slot. Austin earned our top three ranking thanks to high spending for veterans and fireworks sales.
Although Dallas came in at No. 30 overall, they did best the rest of the Texas cities in one area: A whopping 84 percent of Dallas residents are members of the armed forces. That’s compared to 71 percent (Houston), 43 percent (San Antonio), 38 percent (Austin), 28 percent (Fort Worth) and 8 percent (El Paso).
