School bus driver arrested in Steiner Ranch on DWI charge

KVUE — Leander ISD officials confirm that a bus driver was arrested in the Steiner Ranch neighborhood for DWI on Thursday.

Kathy Loraine Legrand, 61, was driving a school bus on Quinlan Park Road where a caller told EMS the bus, occupied with 22-30 children, was being driven into mailboxes and trees. Legrand was seen stumbling when exiting and re-entering the bus and was believed to be impaired, police said.

Legrand said the damages on the bus, including a hanging rear view mirror, large white marks across the bumper and scratches consistent with tree branches, were from an incident two days prior.

Police said Legrand was present when the children on the bus were transferred to a different bus by a school representative, but later, when asked where the children went, she told police she dropped them all off.

Legrand told police she took a Xanax and ate a cinnamon bun on top of her usual medications, the affidavit said.
