Furniture stores and guest speakers often and easily fall into the "boring" category. Lucky for us, the international mega-hit of a website, Apartment Therapy, has teamed up with the punchiest modern furniture depot in town, Threshold, to bring a meeting of the coolest minds in town—Austin Design Riot! (Not lure enough? CultureMap will also be there, playing host and supplying free swag to the first 100 guests.)
Part of October's month-long Austin x Design series, consider Austin Design Riot! an Apartment Therapy meet-up on crack. Four selected speakers—Trent Hultgren (HGTV Design Star), Murray Legge (LZT Architects), Veronica Koltuniak (VeroKolt Furniture) and Sharon Radovich (Panache Interiors)—will each give five-minute, inspiration-packed talks regarding their personal relationships with Austin design.
To cap off each of their moments in the spotlight, each design superstar will reveal to partygoers their "top Austin secrets," a topic that could include anything from the best taco in town to the city's best point of architectural interest.
Afterwards, guests are invited to kick back and relax with a cocktail on Threshold's amazing furniture (don't spill) or challenge themselves with a store-wide scavenger hunt.
Twelve pieces of local art will be displayed throughout the store; connect the right artist to the right piece of work and enter to win a Philippe Starck Masters Chair by Kartell (a value of $244), courtesy of Threshold. Sounds easy enough, but the task may be surprisingly challenging in a space where every nook and cranny is home to some sort of eye-catching design novelty.
With what's sure to be a fun crowd, we invite the aesthetically curious to come out in droves this Thursday night. At the very least, you'll get to lounge on some furniture that you may never be able to afford.
