Top Texas Tacos
10 best tacos in Texas declared by top magazine: Only one in Austin?

Texas Monthly is well-known for its extensive barbecue roundup, but the Lone Star authority has put down the fork and knife in favor of tortillas for its latest list. The December issue of Texas Monthly features the 120 best tacos in the state.
As the magazine cover states, these 120 tacos are the ones you "must eat before you die." Thirteen lucky Texans tasted more than 1,000 tacos from 14 Texas cities over the course of four months. Each was rated on an official scorecard.
You'll have to wait until December to see them all, but you can get a taste of the top 10, which achieved a perfect score, now.
Valentina's Tex Mex BBQ's brisket taco is Texas Monthly's only Austin pick in the top 10. Everything is made in-house at this tiny trailer on Brodie Lane, from the smoked brisket to the savory lime guacamole. Topped with a dash of tomato-serrano salsa, the brisket taco is the epitome of Tex-Mex bundled up in a fresh, handmade tortilla.
Valentina's founder (and barbecue mastermind) Miguel Vidal is no stranger to lists. His food truck has appeared in the top 10 on two separate Bon Appétit roundups — one for tacos and the other for barbecue. Vidal's talents have also contributed to Austin's reputation as the "greatest city for barbecue" in the world, as declared by Texas Monthly.
Rounding out the top 10 taco tease are representatives from San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Brownsville, and El Paso. Keep an eye out for the full list of 120 tacos in the December issue of Texas Monthly.
