The top 10 wealthiest ZIP codes in Austin: Does your neighborhood measure up?
Ever wonder how your locale stacks up financially against the rest of Austin? On Friday, the Austin Business Journal (ABJ) website released its list of the 10 wealthiest ZIP codes in Austin.
The rankings are derived from average household income, based on ESRI statistics. According to ABJ, "the top 10 wealthiest ZIP codes have a median household income of more than $90,807; a combined population of 191,111; 69,195 total households; and 50,805 owner-occupied homes."
Of the top 10 wealthiest ZIP codes, the top eight have a median household income of more than $100,000, with No. 9 and No. 10 reported at above $90,000.
Perhaps not surprisingly, the wealthiest ZIP codes are also located in west Austin, concentrated to the Steiner Ranch, Circle C, West Lake Hills and Bee Caves neighborhoods, with one lone representative from Round Rock (78681).
None of the central Austin ZIPs that we so readily identify with — UT's 78705, South Austin's 78704, Tarrytown's 78703, downtown's 78701 — make the cut.
The wealthiest ZIP codes in Austin are as follows:
- 78730: Median household income of $134,080
- 78739: Median household income of $125,472
- 78732: Median household income of $123,523
