Austin's landmark estate checks in on exclusive list of world's best hotels
A new list of the best hotels in the world — by Condė Nast Traveler, no less — may sound lofty and aspirational, but one is in our own backyard. And while it certainly isn’t cheap, thanks to its nonstop events calendar and storied location, Austin staycationers and daytime adventurers alike are familiar with the now prestigious Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection.
Known to Austinites for its lush Lutie’s Garden Restaurant and beautiful Hyde Park setting, this resort signals luxury without stuffiness or cold modernity. On the contrary, most of its programming — some open only to guests and some specifically advertised to the public — is most attractive for its old-fashioned charm, with plenty of opportunities to dress up like inhabitants of classic American literature.
Condė Nast Traveler's Gold List 2023 indexes the best hotels and resorts in the world, divided by continents or even larger regions. Selections were made by editors who have visited in person, and narrowed the list down to “all-time favorite hotels that exemplify the gold standard of service and hospitality from around the world,” according to a press release.
Austin's Commodore Perry Estate joins 10 other standouts in the "U.S., Canada, and The Caribbean.” This collection, compared with the other continents, appears more contemporary, or at least leans less on old-world aesthetics. There are no other Texas properties on the list.
The list points out the events calendar as one of the estate’s strongest suits, but also discusses its colorful history, emphasizing the wacky-but-stylish characters who preceded Austin’s iconoclastic reputation.
“We are truly humbled that Commodore Perry Estate, Auberge Resorts Collection has received this prestigious recognition from Condé Nast Traveler,” said Commodore Perry general manager Marco Bustamante in the release. “This recognition is thanks to our incredible Texan team whose dedication to creating immersive guest experiences and offering the highest level of personalized service have earned this incredible distinction.”
Commodore Perry Estate's 54 rooms start at $445 per night. Book at aubergeresorts.com.
