Let's Meet Up
Austin's newest conference connects creatives in a whole new way
Forget boring panels. Austin's newest conference, the Creatives Meet Business Experience (CMBXP), will bring a fresh approach to the standard conference mindset when it launches this fall.
It's the brainchild of founder Ashland Viscosi, who saw a need to bring together creatives and business-savvy people from a variety of disciplines. And on Tuesday, July 25, CMBXP announced a lineup of over 40 hands-on workshops for its inaugural event, taking place September 14-16, 2017, in East Austin.
"The issues facing the creative industry need solutions," Viscosi says in a release. "We felt it was time to move beyond discussion and provide a one-of-a-kind opportunity for area creatives to build relationships with other members of the community, to have affordable access to content, and to continue fostering one of the most artistically inclined cities in the nation."
CMBXP has teamed up with Austin Learnshop, General Assembly, and Story Bar to flesh out the programming.
Topics include financial literacy, copyright basics, retirement planning, and social media strategy, and all workshops include hands-on, interactive components. The hard-hitting sessions are balanced out by lessons on crafting ceramics, graffiti, candles, leather goods, even home-brewed beer — plus daily themed happy hours and a three-course brunch by the Elephant Table on the final day of the conference.
Events will take place at five venues in East Austin: Atmosphere Coworking, the Back Pack, Carol Hickey Acting Studio, Juniper, and Soma Vida.
Badges, which cost $100, are on sale now. Attendees can also add on one-on-one mentorship meet-ups for an extra fee.
