Art From the Streets (AFTS) provides a safe and encouraging environment in which the positive spirit and creativity of homeless and formerly homeless people is nurtured through artistic expression, and provides them with a source of pride and income through the sale of their work. The benefits that these "artists from the streets" have experienced from their hard work include greater emotional and financial stability, improved self-esteem, and personal growth. Every artist receives 95 percent of the proceeds from the sale of their work and the transformation from a negative label to a positive one enables enormous newfound opportunities for each artist in the program.
AFTS seeks to diminish the stigmatizing effect of homelessness by nurturing the human desire to create and share, and are always looking for help in making that a reality. Whether you're interested in working with Art From the Streets downtown open studio sessions from 1-4 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, helping out at the Annual Show & Sale in December, helping host a show or fundraiser, or being a corporate sponsor, AFTS will gladly find something to suit your talents, abilities, and schedule. Head here for more information.
The Give Art a Home fundraiser is a lively celebration and exhibit that helps to support the mission of AFTS. The afternoon event is filled with a live and silent auction (that includes artwork from the program's artists), live music, and, of course, plenty of bites and booze.
