Hybrid record shop and salon dolls up fabulous new East Austin home
A charming Austin salon known for mixing music and beauty is bringing a fresh look to its new location.
Vinyl Beauty Bar has relocated to a bigger and better venue at 2400 E. Cesar Chavez St. This small move kept it in the beloved East Austin neighborhood that perfectly encapsulates the eclectic vibe of the salon, and it's throwing a grand opening bash to celebrate.
On May 3rd, the public can get a feel of the new space with live music, cocktails, a complementary pop-up nail bar, massages, and glam services.
The grand opening event will feature live performances from Pussy Gillette, Rod Gator, and Jake Garcia of The Black Angels (also known as DJ Satisfaction). But the event is not just about celebration; It's about giving back, with proceeds from the tickets benefiting the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM). The non-profit organization provides health care access to low-income, working musicians in Austin — a cause that Vinyl founders and co-owners Michael and Tinita Harpel are very passionate about.
“We want to keep the spirit of Austin alive within our space and everything that we do, by supporting the local musicians and all different artists from all various backgrounds,” says Michael.
This is one of the many events Vinyl Beauty Bar has partnered with HAAM to create over the years. “We believe strongly in what they're doing for the community. They always been a part of what we’ve been doing,” says Tinita.
Since its opening in August of 2018, the salon has been offering a unique self-care experience with an array of services from haircuts and color to makeup, manicures, and spa treatments, while also hosting live music and events to enrich the Austin community. The unique concept is the love child of Michael, who has always been a music fanatic and vinyl collector, and Tinita, who has more than 25 years in the cosmetology industry.

“We love having folks come by to grab a casual drink with us, or book out the entire venue for their special event,” said Michael Harpel in a press release. “It’s perfect for so many activations, and we look forward to hosting many brands and Austinites who want a curated experience in a truly unique space where glamor meets innovation.”
The salon is also committed to using only vegan, non-toxic, and cruelty-free products to provide the safest and most eco-conscious options to their customers from the hair dye and polish they source to the beauty products made in-house.
“There are so many beauty products in the world that are toxic and misleading the consumer; therefore there is more demand for transparency and caring for our planet,” says Tinita. “It is comforting to know that we are constantly seeking the safest and best ingredients in all of our products that align with our beliefs.”
Beyond beauty, the new location pays homage to music legends in its decor such as the hot pink bar under a massive mural of country icon Dolly Parton. The literal platform for local artists allows them to shine with a full stage, sound system, and DJ setup.
Tickets for the grand opening ($15 per person) can be purchased on Eventbrite. Vinyl Beauty Bar is open daily. For appointments and list of services visit vinylbeautybar.com.
